Emre Kubilay
Emre Kubilay is a versatile composer and musician with a strong foundation in classical Western music. During his degree studies, he focused heavily on the violin, piano and guitar.
Building upon his education, he moved to London in 2006 to pursue a Master's degree in Composing for Film and TV at Kingston University. Since then, he has applied his craft to several short film projects. Alongside his work in media composition, Emre continues to actively perform live music in various venues.
Helin Kubilay
Helin Kubilay is an accomplished musician and dedicated educator with a lifelong passion for music.
Starting her musical journey at a very young age, she developed a deep foundation in her craft before pursuing formal higher education. She attended music school, successfully completing a rigorous four-year degree programme to refine her skills.
Throughout her career, Helin has actively shared her talent by singing and performing at a wide variety of events. Alongside her performance background, she has built an extensive career in education, bringing over 15 years of experience to her teaching.
Sofia (KNDÉ)
KNDÉ is an exciting singer-songwriter from London, who isn't afraid to fuse classic Soul with modern electronic elements to create her unique alternative Soul sound, drawing inspiration from the likes of Lauryn Hill, Sade and Laura Mvula.
KNDÉ started her songwriting career when she teamed up with Music Director and composer Stephen Large from the UK band Squeeze. This spurred KNDÉ into sending one of her songs to BBC Introducing, who quickly picked it up; it was featured on the Ian Lee, Nesta McGregor, Howard McCalla and Edward Adoo radio shows. KNDÉ's unmistakeable vocals came to the attention of Tony Award and three-time Grammy nominee Melba Moore's promoters, who asked her to perform for Ms Moore at her Jazz Cafe after-party.
2018 saw KNDÉ perform her first international show in Greece and support French singer-songwriter Mélissa Laveaux at London's Rich Mix on her international tour. A review from A&R Factory and Short Sight describes KNDÉ's voice as "dripping with melancholy" and "containing the raw unabashed ingredients of the blues", and her sound as "pensively evocative Rhythm and Blues".
Since 2021 KNDÉ has featured on BBC Introducing with Tom Robinson and Hotel Chocolat's in-store and online playlist, and joined UK artist LEONN (London Community Gospel Choir) on stage at the Isle of Wight Festival. KNDÉ is a force in her own right and continues to build a fanbase of engaged listeners through her songs and powerful live performances.
La Mery
La Mery is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer and dancer with a strong musical background rooted in both performance and education. She began her musical journey at the age of four at ECC, where she studied flute and piano and later performed in an orchestra from the age of ten.
Her musical experience continued through live performance, singing and playing in churches in both Spain and London. She later moved to London, where she completed her Music degree. She plays flute, piccolo, piano, guitar, alto and tenor saxophone, and continues to develop her own art through original music, collaborations and live performances.
Alongside her work as an artist, La Mery has been teaching music for the past three years, offering personalised lessons tailored to each student. She combines her experience as a performer and multi-instrumentalist with a creative approach to teaching, helping students develop their own musicality and confidence.
As an independent artist, she writes and creates her own music and collaborates with other musicians on original projects, bringing together music, movement and her own unique creative voice.

Every Penguin student passed their last ABRSM exam.
We prepare students for graded exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College London, the Registry of Guitar Tutors and Rockschool. And every summer the whole school takes to the stage for our end-of-year concert.

Before you book.
How old does my child need to be?
We take children from age 4 upwards. Adults are very welcome too, and many of our students are parents who started alongside their children.
Do we need our own instrument for the trial?
No. Instruments are available at the school for the free 15-minute trial and for early lessons. Your teacher will advise on what to buy or hire when the time is right.
How long are lessons?
Lessons are 30 or 60 minutes. Your tutor will help you decide which length suits the student's age, attention span and goals.
Private or group, which is better?
Both work. One-to-one lessons move fastest; groups of up to three are sociable and great for confidence. The price is the same either way, so you can choose what suits your child.
Which exams can students take?
We prepare students for ABRSM, Trinity College London, RGT and Rockschool graded exams, plus ABRSM music theory. Exams are optional, and we only enter students when they are ready.
Where are you and when are lessons?
We are at Music & Beans, 461 Green Lanes, London N4 1AQ, on the Harringay Ladder, a short walk from Harringay Green Lanes station and Turnpike Lane. Lessons run on weekday afternoons and evenings and at weekends. Call us to find a slot.
